Faster shutdowns from the desktop

Is it possible to create a shutdown shortcut icon on the desktop that allows you to shut the PC down by clicking it?

Yes it is. Here's what to do First, right-click the desktop and select New, Shortcut. In the Target field type:

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE user.exe,ExitWindows

Type this instruction exactly as shown, and all on one line. Click Next, then type an appropriate name for the shortcut, such as Shut Down Windows. Click Finish.

To use the shortcut you can either double-click it or drag it to the Quick Launch bar for single-click operation. It works with Windows 95, 98 and Me. See also tips Faster shutdowns from the keyboard and Faster restarts from a shortcut.
